It seems the touch-screen can be disabled, thank heavens for that. The D500 has all the familiar buttons on both sides of the LCD.
Touch-screen only would be a real turn-off.

With 3 axis IR too.  That's a new one for Nikon DSLR.

I see Akira selling his Oly and purchasing the D500 :)
As many others will.
The specs are unbelievable!!!

(I am just curious to know the high ISO capabilities)

Jakov, I don't know what to say about it!   :o :o :o

Nikon needs to announce good wideangle primes for DX.  The newly announced 18-55 zooms in two seemingly redundant variation are not well balanced with D500.

From the announcement:
I did read that but there's marketing talk and then there's the real thing, the image of the viewfinder Bjørn J posted shows the marketing isn't too far off the reality however :)
Cheers,

I believe that function is only for FHD and HD video recording, not stills. And not 4k video.
That's how I read the marketing blurb.

D500 has a 1.0X viewfinder magnification with 16mm eyepoint.
D5: 0.72X and 17mm.

I would want 18-20mm equivalent on DX (or m4/3 in this regard).  For the fisheye, I would prefer the Samyang 8mm/f3.5 which is of stereographic projection type.

I bought two defect samples of 40/2.8 micro (both suffered from the oblique optical axis).  Never want to try another.

Just attached the images to the OP, I really dig the round viewfinder and the little joystick for what I assume is for AF point selection.

Bjørn has to alternate between handling the new cameras and consuming the finest of foods a Michelin restaurant has to offer, I'm sure he is enjoying both in equal measure  ;D

"enhanced 2359k-dot resolution"

That is about twice as many dots as the D810 screen, the highest resolution screen on a DSLR. Not sure if that's a "retina grade" screen that Lloyd Chambers keeps asking for...

The Michelin restaurant would have to make sure that they have enough bananas in stock for Bjørn. ;D

What's more important is, I think, whether the response of the live view is fast and sharp enough to be used for focusing, not just viewing.
