Woman with umbrella
« on: January 02, 2016, 16:09:25 »
Taken a couple of years ago in Kensington Market here in Toronto.
It had been raining a bit as I was walking around looking for interesting situations, when a woman wearing an unusual outfit approached me walking rather quickly.
I barely had time to get the camera to my eye as she passed me, panned and grabbed this shot.
Converted to black and white in Photoshop.
Nikon S3 rangefinder.
Nikon 85 f2 in Nikon S mount
Fuji 100 ISO colour slide
5.6 @ 1/125th

I shoot with film. That's film. F...i...l...m. You remember film. It was in all the papers.

Just a perfect sense of motion.
You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

Frank,
Thanks for commenting.
Essentially her hips are stationary and everything else above and below them is in motion.

To say it as a framer / farmer: Here ass is sharp ... the rest ... hm, what about the rest that does not rest?

I love the picture more and more looking at it a second or a third time.

PS: Yes digital is still around and you can take all lenses with you. I recommend a cheapo used Df in your case.

It is a strangely enticing image. Mongo had to keep looking at it for a while.

if you draw a horizontal line at her waistline and cover the bottom half and then alternatively her top half, Mongo thinks the bottom half is what almost entirely gives this image its fascination. The movement Frank refers to is also a big part of that and it is found largely in the bottom half. Very nicely seen and recorded.
