Today 15th Jan is "Makar Sankranti" Festival in India and it's a holiday.
"Makar Sankranti" is a Hindus festival celebrated in almost all parts of India, Nepal and Bangladesh in many cultural forms. It is a harvest festival.. "Makar Sankranti" marks the transition of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path. The day is also believed to mark the arrival of spring in India; yes technically winter is over
. It's 29°C/84°F right now anyway, in Bangalore!
Especially today, my grandma and my mother used to make a bengali sweet made with rice flour dimsum filled with coconut, milk cream and date palm jaggery -- known as 'Pitha'.
In some states especially in Gujarat, this festival is celebrated by flying kite. Sky will be full with kites in every direction. This year they are even celebrating International Kite Festival. In Bangalore, not so much. I noticed hardly one or two kites in the sky.
While the sun was setting, I saw this family walking back home with a kite. The scene made me very happy!
