I am glad to find you all this new forum. I was an occasional participant on the old one, and always appreciated being able to pick your brains (the best experience is second-hand experience!).
I enjoy photography, but am more of a casual photographer than many of you. Way back in the day I got started using a Pentax K1000 film camera - I happily shot with that for many years. Nikon's D70 pulled me into the digital age - I purchased one (with its surprisingly capable 18-70mm kit lens) right before we took a trip to Hawaii. Eventually I migrated to full frame when the D700 came out. I loved that camera, but (and here's where some of you will roll your eyes) I found after few years I would find reasons not to carry it - photography is just a hobby for me, and the extra weight and bulk of the full frame gear made it inconvenient for me to carry back and forth to my job and other places. So I sold the D700 and most of my full-frame lenses, and (after flirting with mirrorless) bought a D7100.
My current kit is pretty simple. I've got the D7100; the Nikkor 10-24, 16-85, and 70-300 zoom lenses; the Nikkor 35mm DX; Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G; and the Tamron 60mm f/2 Di PDQ SOL FAQ LOL waytoomanyletters macro. The 50 may actually go away, since I like the Tamron quite a bit - but all in all I've found this works, and my NAS seems to be dormant.
