Photography dabbler in Oakland, California
« on: November 30, 2015, 09:17:58 »
Hello all, my name is Tristin.  Musician with a love for photography.  First got into photography while working at an electronics store and I saw a Panasonic FZ20.  I had never seen glass that big and, though I had never really shot or been interested in cameras, I just found the huge front element very appealing.  Then onto a D70 where I discovered fast 50s.  Next was a Minolta 7D with a 30mm, then a Canon 5D with various 50s.  Dropped photography for the last 6ish years to focus more on music but I've picked back up on it again this year with a D750.  Very happy Nikon has FF now!  I never shoot anything in particular, I like to keep my camera with me in case I find myself in the right place at the right time.  I am very partial to night and low light shooting however.

Anyone with a keen interest in photography is warmly welcome to NG.

Really fast lenses have an appeal on their own, apart from their speed. They can produce dreamy out-of-this-world images and give extreme isolation of the subject, and in the extreme cases, they depict the subject from different angles so as to give a near 3-D rendition of it. The latter aspect is seen with f/1 or faster in the near range.

the love of playing music and and making images are not distant cousins. Mongo is certain other photo lovers on this site (and elsewhere) are also musicians and/or have other passionate pursuits in addition to.

Mongo was saving the fatted calf for a special occasion and it may as well be for your return to photography. So, welcome back and to NG

Yet another musician here.  Welcom aboard, Tristin!  Which is your main musical instrument?

Just in general, good bassists are hard to find.  On a side note, I started on bass and my love for bass never quite left.  Technically I play baritone guitar, I make my own long scale 6 strings that are tuned nearly an octave down.  I need to be careful or I am gonna start drifting into music talk here haha.

I don't see a problem with that. Welcome from further down the coast.
You make your own long scale 6 strings? Tell us more, got any pictures?
I've always wanted to try out a baritone guitar, like a Fender VI, but have yet to do so.
