My personal feeling is you might have need some fill n flash for the shadows.
Your images are nice and personal - one feels you are right there seeing it yourself.

if there is one thing I hate - its a speedlight - I even hate it more than a tripod. But I have learned that in harsh light or light /shadow combination - one needs to fill the shadows so the contrast isnt so big. One doesnt (I didn't) think for one minute one should use a flash in the middle of the day - until I thought about it and saw the difference in results. And of course all my friends who do event photography laughed at me for not knowing it.
