Series 1200 electric locomotive. Design by Baldwin, built by Werkspoor Utrecht (1951-1953).

Ahh, looks similar to the "Deltic" line of locos that used to pull intercity trains from London to Edinburgh back in the 1070's

Deltic was the name of the of the engine, there was a marine version used by the Royal Navy, which I worked on in the 80/90s at the Admiralty Engineering Laboratory near Heathrow!

I have always enjoyed this thread;  it was started by Elsa Hoffman many years ago.

I recall that Elsa did not always enjoy the best of health and I have not seen her on NG for a long while now - does anyone know if she is OK?

Hugh,  Elsa seems to be spending her energy on 'photos_and_tours by elsa on Instagram and business.    I have not exchanged emails for some time.  She is posting some excellent  images.

Elsa is one of my friends on Facebook.  She sometimes posts beautiful images of animals, birds and insects of SA as well as lovingly reckless jokes.  :D

I have always enjoyed this thread;

I must say that I do too, Hugh! While I have nothing in particular against boats, it's the locomotives that I love. I van recall back in the 60's when the Southern Pacific RR ran some of the Krauss-Maffei diesel-hydraulic engines, before diesel-electric models took control of the industry. Those diesel-hydraulic locos had a very aggressive, powerful look about them. I loved watching them pass though town.  ;)

I'm wondering why we haven't seen Elsa post here on NG in such a long time.

Trains can be slightly scary!
This one is coming at you straight from the mountains.
BTW, this peak is 60km away and aptly named "Schreckhorn" (Schreck means horror in German).
