This is an example of stop-before-end-of-tracks-locomotive ... Or didn't it?

Flåmsbana (Flåm Line) is a side branch on the main Oslo-Bergen Line and the steepest standard-gauge railway in Europe. These days it is run exclusively as a tourist service and has become very popular as you go by train from the Fjords (typically arriving on a Cruise vessel) straight up to the snowy mountains over a short distance, a mere 20 km. Dedicated stations allow close encounter with water falls, a treat appreciated by the visitors judged by the surge in popularity of this service seen over the years. Each train set has two massive locomotives, front and rear, to negotiate the steep gradient.

Here two trains are standing by at Flåm Station, waiting for passengers to alight from the cruise ships dotting the adjacent fjord.

One of the high lights of the trip to Southwestern US deserts with Andrea a few years back was the encounter with freight trains and their interlinked diesel locomotives. Their sheer size, noise, and deep earth-shaking rumble when they passed us were amazing.

Here a train is passing at Kelso, in the Mojave desert, CA. Shot with my D200 IR camera and the 28-300 Nikkor. The train set had four locomotives in front and two in the rear, and must have been several km long all together. The racket it made would satisfy even Jeremy Clarkson of 'Top Gear' fame :D

Df, 70-200 f4vr handheld.  Just playing with PP.  I would love to shoot trains.  A couple of years ago I searched for a great location to shoot trains.  Found a great spot but when I went back during the Monsoon it had been fenced off  >:(
