Aurora No.3 plus a visit from the asteroid belt
« on: November 04, 2015, 20:36:47 »
Luck was in last night - a double hit of an interesting aurora and a very bright meteorite.

As has become a habit, this night shot was made with the 28/2 AIS.

Very nice.  It's a meteor, by the way.

Thanks, everybody. It was a very active night for meteors (correction noted!) so there was a good chance of catching one or two, but this was exceptionally lucky.

Great capture and good timing.

Overcast here in Fairbanks so we missed it.
Someone else in interior Alaska were more lucky with weather and got some gorgeous corona as reported in the local newspaper here:

The mountains, the meteor (perfectly in place!), the aurora and the starry skies...what an awe-inspiring image!

Thanks, Jørgen and Peter. I still haven't had time to process most of what I shot that day - too busy getting ready for a trip.

Seeing your recent production, I am more and more looking forward to my winter trip to Scotland.
A long weekend only, so I have to hope for collaboration from the powers of Asgard.
