Anirban, I miss one of your criteria: these ladies were not loud selling fish and shrimps

Arend, this is very much Old World Market. :) All my criteria are just to give an idea.
I like all the three photos. The second one is very neat and third one is striking, unusual; I like the lighting. Thanks for sharing!

Ahh, is that the Jodhpur sugar cane wallah Tom?

I love the Dusk-time light you've captured.
It reminded me of an evening in Pachmarhi UP

Thanks Peter. Glad you enjoyed them. Really sorry about late reply.

Yes, that is a sugar cane "wallah". :)
Cool atmospheric shot Collin. These shops are there almost everywhere in India. Yes, they are old world. :)

Last few weeks I've been travelling across continents and had an opportunity to visit an Old World market. 108°F/40°C - 90% humidity, rains but no less crowd.
This gentleman selling raw banana and banana stem. These are different kinds of banana and only consumed when they are raw/green.

Very nice Anirban, what does the banana stem taste like?

Not the sort of old world market you meant, but never the less a market, the smell of the fruit was lovely!

Thanks Mike. Banana stem has crisp texture and a mild sweet flavor. They are delicious when cooked with indian spices. Sometime they are even cooked with tiny prawns/shrimp.

Your market is certainly Old World like - like one of those "Farmer's Market" in US. I can almost smell the fruits; very nice angle, colours.

Hi Anirban, it looks like mussels yes.

John those are cattle cow heads. Nothing goes to waste, even the guts out of the bigger fish are sold.
