Sweets/Confectionaries in a "Traditional Bakery" in Santorini, Greece. You can literally taste the amount of Sugar in them!!
I unfortunately don't have photo of the entire Bakery itself. Some of you must have been to this place. It comes on the way to Perrisa/Kamari beach.

In case all that sugar seen in Anirban's photo gives you a conscience here is one or more of your five a day, again from the Portobello Road.

Not sure how "Old World" this is, and it doesn't really show the whole market, but this was shot in Barcelona, La Boqueria.

Anthony - your photos are so fascinating and story-telling. I like all of them.

Hans - very nice close ups. It does show a different world even in those close shots.

Thanks Anirban, much appreciated. I see so many good images of markets here, especially yours. They really give a glimpse into another world (for me anyway).

Yep, great topic for a thread. Sorry, I only just found this.
It was hilarious viewing Elsa's pix as I was actually listening to "Tripe face Boogie" at the time....

Meanwhile here are a couple of mine

Starting in Hyderabad
These are Betel leaves

And sugar cane, becoming juice...

And, coming from the UK, I am still fascinated to see huge blocks of ice being carried around

And this market in Delhi had a pretty impressive setting

Not completely "Old World", a traditional herbal tea shop in Amsterdam (yes, tea!) with two of the most scary sales assistants!

And finally, street food from South Gloucestershire
