Thanks Colin, today might be the last clear night here for a while as clouds moved in later from the south and with Saturn also participating in the community lineup with Luna and Venus, I just could not resist another capture. This one, also with the 85mm f/1.8  was about an  hour later so the background changed to colder blue. Handheld shot at 1/8 sec was on the long side but worked for some of the tries.

I'm often amazed at the sharpness of the starscapes my mobile phone can capture, even when handholding with nothing to steady myself against.

(i think software is doing a lot in the background as the exposures are often 5-6 seconds)

...Handheld shot at 1/8 sec was on the long side but worked for some of the tries.

But if back when the D3 came out, someone had told you that its great-granchildren would allow you to handold an 85mm lens at 1/8th, you might have been surprised :)

Thanks Bruno and Colin. Yes the night mode on the phones are doing some tricks, stacking multiple aligned shorter exposures. I am often amazed how well the IBIS on the Z8 works even in sports mode which is my standard setting unless I bother to change it. My chipped 105 and 135mm AIS lenses got a new life on the Z8 in this respect, although admittedly the AF on the 85mm f/1.8S is good to have.

Next moment is soon, Nasos. Mars will be close to the moon during the night of January 13 to 14. It will be right above the moon's north pole at 5h TU, if I'm correct. If clouds allow, I'll be out.

Stellarium is your friend. The position will vary with latitude, and timing. The date of opposition is almost the same, 15-16 January. Closest approach of Mars to earth will be 4 days earlier.

Hello Ølvind,
may I ask what kind of chips your AIS lenses are equipped with? I am asking because with my Dandelion-chipped lenses it seems that IBIS doesn't work (Nikon FTZ. adapter). Using an adapter without contacts and entering the lens data in the camera makes IBIS functional again.

Hi Jürgen, I am using the chips supplied by Birna in the past that unfortunately are not available any longer. I only have one Dandelion G-chip which is mounted on a reversal ring. On my Z8 I can easily hear when IBIS is active, so you should be able to confirm just by listening in a quiet place. The choices being grayed out in the menu or not would also be an indication.

Hi Ølvind,
thanks for your answer. With the Zf it's not so easy to hear the IBIS, maybe due to the different "fixation"? of the sensor compared to the Z8 (clicking sound when the Zf is turned off). But after some tests I have to say, that Dandelion chips don't support IBIS. So, if it‘s do decide between stabilization with chip and focus confirmation without chip, stabilization wins.

Yes Colin it’s  in the lower LH corner of the image ;)
Yes it was very clear here also and I used Stellarium to identify that Jupiter is next to the Moon  8)
I also check  and show some satellites of Jupiter so 100% positive Identification!
Wait for moon- Mars approach as noted earlier.

Mars and the moon, very early today. Mars is so tiny that I need a large screen to see it on the full picture.
