Moon and Jupiter.

The second image is 100% crop of the Jupiter.  Three satellites are captured as well (one on the far left is only barely visible).

Forgot to mention the equipment used for my own shots:

Nikon 1V3 + FT1 + AFS 200-500mm/5.6 + TC14eII, electronic shutter, handheld, no stacking

Tonight should be the appropriate night for capturing the intended landing site for  the Apollo 13 mission (N of Fra Mauro crater, close to the Apollo 14 landing site). It was in the shade yesterday evening.

Thank you, Massimo, for the technical details.  It a shame that Nikon 1 system was aborted altogether.  Given the performance of the current 1" 20MP sensor by Sony, Nikon 1 would have been a very compact and efficient interchangeable lens hybrid camera system.

I'm glad to have been able to buy most models (all of them - V series except the 1V2, complete J series, 1AW1), while the prices were at their lowest...

Now, while waiting for the Moon to be the right brightness (should be already, in Japan ), I was able to track down the Apollo 16 landing site on the same detail picture as Apollo 11's.

To locate the Apollo 16 landing site, the easy procedure is as follows:

• Locate the Theophilus crater: easy, it has a rock formation in its center
• To the WNW of Theophilus there is a small crater (Kant)
• Draw a line between the centers of the craters, and extend the line WNW by the same distance
• You reach a small crater, Dolland E. Move N a little bit, and you have the Apollo 16 landing site

Apollo 12, 13 (projected) and 14 landing sites

This evening was as clear as three days ago, so it was possible to capture a good image of the Moon, with the craters of the landing sites for the Apollo 12, 13 and 14 missions

The approximate area where Apollo 13 should have landed is indicated by a red rectangle, N of the Apollo 14 landing site (Fra Mauro formation).

Procedure for locating the Apollo 12 landing site:

• Locate the Copernicus crater (upper L corner of image)
• Locate the three craters Reinhold, Lansberg, and Gambart A
• The Apollo 12 landing site is the fourth corner of the ideal rectangle  that is formed by the three craters + landing site

Procedure for locating the Apollo 14 landing site:

• Locate the Ptolemaeus crater (large, with a thin rim)
• Above Ptolemaeus is another crater (Herschel)
• To L of Herschel is a small crater (Lalande)
• Connect the center of the Herschel crater with the S rim of the Lalande crater, and extend the line horizontally another 1.5x the original distance
• At the end of the line, you will find the Apollo 14 landing site

Same equipment as three days ago, (1v3+FT1+200-500mm/5.6+TC-14eII)  with the addition of a tripod
Image was reduced by 50% (original image was 2800x2800 px)
Detail image is a 100% crop of the original image

There are still enough supply of used J5 in clean condition in Tokyo, but the FT1 adapter is too expensive compared to the price of a mint used J5 body.

Z6 200-500 plus TC 20e iii no tripod
Normally I use z50 for this but during birding I discovered that z6 with 200-500 plus tc 1.7 has a little more resolving power than z50 200-500
It’s not the little more higher magnification,  the icon is cleaner with more details overall
That said this is moon with z6 200-500 plus tc 1.7

Nasos, your capture of the Jupiter and its satellites is much cleaner probably thanks to the high magnification of 500mm and 1.7x TC.   I just used SIGMA fp with Ai 200/4.0 with no intention to capture the satellites, hence the surprise.

FWIW, I enhanced, brightened and 200% enlarged the original raw file.  I don't know what the red dot below left of the Jupiter.  Another planet or satellite?  Or just a heat noise of the sensor?

I have seen one of the satellites that is not in the same axis as all the others like the one in the upper part of my photo but I am not sure if this star is a satellite
In your case it must be heat noise

According to Wiki, as much as 79 satellites have been found around Jupiter so far.  I wouldn't be surprised if some of them don't share the same revolution surface.  The universe is full of wonder...

Indeed. I think I remember having posted earlier on this thread a picture showing a moon way off the usual visible 3. It was quite some time ago, so I have to look for it. I’ll repost if I find it soon enough !
