Apollo 12, 13 (projected) and 14 landing sitesThis evening was as clear as three days ago, so it was possible to capture a good image of the Moon, with the craters of the landing sites for the Apollo 12, 13 and 14 missions
The approximate area where Apollo 13 should have landed is indicated by a red rectangle, N of the Apollo 14 landing site (
Fra Mauro formation).
Procedure for locating the Apollo 12 landing site:
- Locate the Copernicus crater (upper L corner of image)
- Locate the three craters Reinhold, Lansberg, and Gambart A
- The Apollo 12 landing site is the fourth corner of the ideal rectangle that is formed by the three craters + landing site
Procedure for locating the Apollo 14 landing site:
- Locate the Ptolemaeus crater (large, with a thin rim)
- Above Ptolemaeus is another crater (Herschel)
- To L of Herschel is a small crater (Lalande)
- Connect the center of the Herschel crater with the S rim of the Lalande crater, and extend the line horizontally another 1.5x the original distance
- At the end of the line, you will find the Apollo 14 landing site
Same equipment as three days ago, (1v3+FT1+200-500mm/5.6+TC-14eII) with the addition of a tripod
Image was reduced by 50% (original image was 2800x2800 px)
Detail image is a 100% crop of the original image
