Thanks for the kind words John and Jan Anne.

That Moon raker is classic, Bjørn.
Nice timing Andy (assuming you did not cheat   ;D ) and great detail from the V1.

With lack of clear weather, here are a couple of contributions from my D200 days.

This is the right assumption. I would indicate such a step :D

Another one with the D7000 and a long Nikkor, This is the original image, just resized. A 100% crop.
Shooting location: in the city

A 1920x1280 version, slightly cropped

Partly clear sky tonight so it was too tempting to capture one with AW1 and 300PF +TC14E again. Atmospheric conditions were pretty good; still this one was the best among 10+ exposures, in spite of that I had forgotten to turn VR off on this one (all tripod mounted). As earlier, exposure to the right was pulled down nearly two stops in post. 420mm @ f/7.1, 1/160 sec. ISO 160.

Thanks Erik and Jakov.

We were treated to more this night. A quick trip outside (advantage of living in a dry cabin...) revealed some really nice and fast moving aurora that was competing with the moonlight. It lasted 20 minutes and then it was all over although there might be some new waves later. No time to look for a good foreground. These two are fresh off the card, with some slight edits. Both with D7100, f/4 @ 12 mm, 4-6 sec, ISO 3200.

Nice I like the waves ;) but I don't like the transition of the moonlight to sky, looks like strange blooming,,,

Thanks for the comments. No blooming, Erik. It was what I could see with my eyes, and in this case it was so intense that the perception of colors by eye was excellent. Sometimes one gets these white bands on the aurora, with a little bit of purple in it. The purples might have been somewhat subdued by the movement vs. exposure time here though.

Very nice Aurora !

A few moons from my side:

One from earlier this week (V1 + 300/4D + TC-20EIII)

Almost full moon a few years ago (D300 + 500/4P + TC-17E)

And a bit more special, taken while doing macro's with the Sigma 150mm.....

Thanks for your comment Arent,

Excellent renditions and tones in these; It looks like you had a nice calm sky without much atmospheric disturbance. I really like the way the half moon gives emphasis to the crater region near the south pole. Sounds like you used the AFS 300/4 non-VR version for this and not the 300 PF as in your wren post?

Thanks Øivind and good observation !

After getting the VR version I planned to sell the 300/4D AFS, but in the end I kept it for several reasons:
* it is sharper with the TC-20E III
* it balances much better on a tripod
* I can use it with my Sony camera's
* I can use it with the sturdy PN11 extension ring for close-up

So for moon details this is my favorite lens.
