Samyang Perspective control for Sony FE mount
« on: November 09, 2015, 18:37:14 »
Has anyone used this?
Further, I read that that the Sony mount is virtually impossible to find and that an adapter is required.
I am thinking of trying this lens for a relatively inexpensive excusion into perspective control.

Not the best lens out there, but apparently quite useful

Be prepared to apply some additional efforts in the processing workflow.

I haven't used it, so please ignore if this is not the answer you are expecting.

But, fwiw, the LensRentals.com scrutinized the construction of the lens, which may offer you some thoughts on its extended usage:

Although you should know, the mount of A7II is "E" mount, not "A".

According to both links, the Samyang 24/3.5 for Canon EF has no electric contact, and its aperture is operated purely mechanically.  So you wouldn't need the intelligent adapters by Metabones or Kipon.  A simple cheap adapter would suffice.

I have the lens in Nikon mount. It is respectable for the price, but needs to be used well stopped down and does not seem to take rough handling well (see the Lensrentals article cited above). It doesn't have contacts, and thus should be easy to adapt to the Sony. I cannot predict whether the different filter array of the mirrorless cam will make the performance better or worse though.

If you want to know more, please ask.

I have the Nikkor 24/3.5 PC and it does a very respectable job on Df and D800. You can destruct it if you fall over it in the field, but then it'll break your ribs simultaneously  (personal experience ...)

Yes, just a mispeaking on my part, thank you.

I no longer have any Nikon bodies and am trying hard not to destroy any bodies I do have - camera or my own.

Well, accidents do happen. Good to know the lens is sturdily built :D
