standing bare foot in such conditions is mind boggling for me that live in much much warmer climate

People, yours truly inclusive, have gone to far more extremes than this in order to get the shot. This was not even close to the freezing point

First is Michael Reichmann (Of LuLa fame) at Geiranger, Norway. He wasn't entirely comfortable with the snow, despite his Canadian origin.

Next is Andrea crawling belly-down in the Mojave desert. Burning hot.

Nice protectective device. I think the little knobs are there to help with the helmet aerodynamics. They change the threshold for the transition from laminar to turbolent air current.
Handle attached at the center of gravity to ease the use. Reinforcements to compound the handle to the protective shell.
Very advanced design, camouflaged as a strawberry
