Here's a crudely processed shot I did "in my sleep" last night.

Only the exposure, highlight and white were tweaked, and then the image was trimmed.

E-M5 MkII, Nikkor-Q C 200/4.0@f5.6, ISO1600, -2EV.  Handheld.

I couldn't manage anything as dramatic as the others. Here, around midnight, the moon was a dull brown colour; I was too sleepy to stay up later.

Well done guys.
I hadn't planned to shoot this, but gave it a go. However they aren't as clear as yours - not enough magnification or a steady enough support.

I also really struggled to get sharp focus at the point of full eclipse as the light levels dropped so dramatically.

Many thanks to all those "early birds" (or late nighters) for those pictures, as I slept off the date and anyhow, I'm not sure I would have seen anything in Paris... :-)

Impressive sharpness, Elsa. Haven't had time to look through all my files from tonight, however in general my super-blood moon shots are not very sharp. Here is a preliminary attempt though.
(D810+ 300mm f/2.8 with TC-17e ii).

Lets be honest - I have seen very very few sharp blood moons. We all had the same problem - and the results show it.

My image is not the blood moon - it is the super-moon earlier in the evening - edited.

I did my tests shots - which were okey as you can see - then a friend offered to go up on the mountain with me to shoot the moon  at 3:30 am. Not that this was entirely necessary - but is a girl to say no if a guy wants to take her out?? Of course not.  (anyway he doesnt know better and I didnt set him right)

I felt too bad to tell him he froze his nuts off for no reason - so I made him a blood moon instead.

I had a clear view of the eclipse from 2:45 to 3:40, in which time the moon became completely eclipsed.

The moon's colour throughout was normal silvery white, with one or two very slightly yellow crescents.

I had never seen a lunar eclipse, so it was worth getting up in the middle of the night.  But no redness.  I wonder how many posted images on the web have had some colour assistance from Photoshop.

I also struggled with sharp focus, using AFS, AFC and Manual.

Anthony - I couldnt even get manual focus! I kept thinking I was going blind

re the internet - I think my friends are too honest Its only me that think everything goes!
Anyway - so many of them had bad images - they have to be real

I tried with the V1 + 70-300 ... I saw it at about 9pm local time, redness had diminished, it was more obvious earlier, but partially visible due to clouds

nothing worth sharing , way to dark for the little V1, and was too exhausted to try with the D800

Tokyo was far from the area where you can observe the eclipse.  My bloody moon was shot at around 6:00PM.  For the same mechanism as sunset or sunrise, the moon was the "bloodiest" at the moonrise.
