Ruby throated hummingbird
« on: September 15, 2015, 02:26:06 »
This is a picture I took of a hummingbird out the back deck.   Nikon D 300s with Nik 70-300mm non VR lens and a Metz SuperBlaster flash. ( Metz 58 AF 2.  I think that it was at 2/60th sec, f/6.3  and ISO  500.  It's a pretty severe crop so the quality is not that great.

But it is nice that you captured the little hummer in-hover with those interesting patches of feather iridescence.

Elsa, set AF-C and Ch and 9-point tracking. Then depress shutter repeatedly and keep re-focusing and shooting!!! <laughing> Sometimes spray-and-pray is helpful when dealing with tiny hovering helicopter birdies who dart about quicker than the speed of light.

it's a thrill to capture a Hummingbird !

when I have done it, the camera is triggered with a radio, so I'm out of sight, in my case the bird was getting scared with the light of the flash, or the sound of the shooter

I hope you get more chances to capture the little bird
