Incubate - streetart - Bartkira
« on: September 05, 2015, 10:24:33 »
12 September the one week during Incubate-festival will start for the 11th time in Tilburg. Although the main core of the festival is (alternative) music a number of art projects are on the program like  a 'wall-art'project on one of the 'Spoorzone'-buildings situated along the railway.

"Bartkira is a community art project in which hundreds of artists from all over the world are collaborating to recreate all six volumes of Akira, replacing all the characters with the cast of the Simpsons."

You are right, Mike.

I re-done the image in PN (with a new test-period) and a smaller crop.

Cool, do we get to see more of the series?

The second version feels a bit overcooked...

cheers

Perhaps a bit ;)

More of what, Afx?  The festival or the graffiti?

I usually have a press-pass so I can enter all locations (more than 40 different one's, and weird ones too like a chapel, cityhall, theater, church).  It's a special international music-festival were sub-(music) groups/fans all over the world meet, join and mingle.  So there is a lot to see.

A few years ago the main project was 'Play me I am Yours' which was a huge success with more than 100 piano's in the streets   (http://tilburgers.nl/het-zijn-er-103-geworden-incubate-van-start-in-tilburg/)

A different angle.

John, I like the new versions and reckon the subject matter deserves a bit of overcooking. Is this artwork temporary or permanent?

Well, that question also rised here locally, Mike as the buildings and the whole 'Spoorzone' site is an architectural monument. (build before 1900 by the Dutch Railway company) It was one of the largest maintenance site in the Netherlands. The buildings and the  site have been sold to the city in 2007, who originally planned to tear it all down and build it full with sky-scrapers.  Luckily a crisis arrived and all the monumental buildings are preserved.   The paint is on water-base and it will be removed after the festival.

What is special about this, the grounds of the railway site were a no-go-zone since 1863, and have split the city in two. (from West to East and North of the railroad)  ( a kind of Berlin-situation ;)   Two  tunnels are now constructed and that will connect North and South for the first time in 152 years. Later this year the official opening will mark this historical event.

Okay, no problem. I will show some of the results ;)

The line-up for music contains 377 artists  -  http://incubate.org/2015/line-up

Some press info:  "Incubate festival 2015 – 11th edition
Incubate is the annual celebration of cutting edge culture in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

It is a festival exhibiting a diverse view on indie culture as a whole, including a lot of music, visual arts, debate, film and contemporary dance. Driven by artistic development, Incubate brings more than 200 cutting edge artists in an intimate context to an international audience. Black metal next to free folk. Refreshing art next to inspiring debate.

The eleventh edition of Incubate takes place on 14 to 20 September 2015 in the city of Tilburg in The Netherlands and its surroundings. From pub to church. From pop venue to farm."

Another angle - The street-art is on the left somewhere.   The higher building is the headquarter of 'Interpolis', the largest insurance company in the Netherlands.
