This lens is slowly becoming a favourite of mine. In my quest for small light travel zooms I have been happy with the E 75-150 3,5 and the AF D 80-200 4,5/5,6.
On the midrange, I obtained good results with the kit zooms 28-80 both D and G but they are quite slow on the long side (5,6) and the haptics of the G are far from good (I am manual focusing on my Sony A7II).
I think that the 28-70 was the result of a "pre-kit" conception and was not considered as a cap for the bodies sold with.
I am not saying it is a perfect lens but it has the merits of being really good without closing much on the long end which makes more sense than zooms that necessitate f8 for a good pic.
On the short side quality can be very good but there is some mild "balloon" field curvature that is not frankly reduced by stopping down. However this remark does not mean the quality is bad, quite to the contrary since the lens compares favourably to my 28 2,0 N Auto that also suffers from some field curvature, at least on the Sony sensor. Nothing you would notice on non flat subject or for non infinity landscapes.
Highly recommended.
