When i touch up focus with the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S on my Nikon Z8 a focus bar graph appears with a flower and infinity symbol. This with both the viewfinder and monitor when "Simple" is selected in Custom Settings d19 and d20. The only way i've found to get rid of it is touch AF-ON which defeats the manual focus touch up or turn off "Simple" in d19 and d20. It seems useful but when composing I'd like it gone. Am I missing something? Searching on the Web and the manual for the lens got me no hits.

I'd really like it to disappear with a half press of the shutter release. I guess my old technique of AF then touch up focus if necessary by moving the camera and lens together slightly will work. That AF then move the camera and lens is how i usually worked with the AF-S 70-180mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-D Micro-NIKKOR.

Here is what I'm testing and may use...

in the CUSTOM SETTING MENU> f Controls> f2 Custom controls (shooting)> (Fn2)> Live view info off>

I hope that makes sense. (Fn2) is the button i chose.

Here is what happens...

Pressing (Fn2) toggles "Live view info" off then on. All of the info on the monitor and in the viewfinder disappears except the focus area marker(s) giving a very clean monitor or viewfinder for composing the shot.

Thank you, Dave. If only I had an extra function button on my Zf :-\

Ian, I’ve got a Zf and make use of that function a lot like Dave suggests. Since I’m mainly a still photographer I’ve assigned that function to the record button sitting right next to the shutter. If you don’t film a lot you might give it a try. I myself think its very convenient! I usually put
Custom settings that I change more frequently in “ My Menu”.

Thank you, Jan. I use that button to change the autofocus area mode. However, there is another button that might be a contender.
