Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos
« on: February 15, 2026, 06:15:27 »
Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos are a large (50cm) tropical cockatoo (Calptorhynchus banksii). It may or may not be a surprise that the species is named for the males, which are indeed black and have bright red tail panels; they also have a large crest, as in the first image. Females are not black, with extensive yellow spotting (as in the partly obscured bird in the second image) and have yellow/orange tail panels. They are noisy and gregarious, moving around in groups until they find a fruiting tree, which they then leisurely de-fruit.

Z50II with 28-400, processed in Nitro.

Nitro is a processing app. Nik Bhatt was a principal developer for Apple's Aperture, and when that shrivelled he left and made Nitro. Apple users looking for software that does more than NX but is simpler than Affinity and sells for a single modest payment for a perpetual licence should have a look.

Very beautiful, the feathers are black and also brown.

Thank you for the recommendation. Affinity is great but does not lend itself to handling large numbers of photographs quickly. When time permits I will take a look.
