Leica-R Elmar 100/4 on Z7ii
« on: February 01, 2026, 22:10:36 »
I got my Refurbished Z7ii and was curious how good IBIS worked with non-CPU MF lenses.
I put on a CLA'ed Leica-R Elmar 100/4. I got this lens because the image examples on web showed nice bokeh and good sharpness and CA under good control.
It was cheap also and I have never tried Leica-R glass.

I tried it out ISO64 to test IBIS at f/4 at sunset (just a test image from the balcony). It looks like CA is well controlled in this 4-lens design.
I will not use it as macro but just as an all purpose lens. Lens itself goes only 1:3 but exist also as a bellows lens so lens is designed to get close-up.

1/80 sec at f/4. IBIS worked very well I think. There is a difference in rendering compared to Z50. Z7ii looks more "smooth" but I need to se more examples to be sure "smoothness" is not camera shake :-)

The lens was CLA'ed by Mikeno62. It is my lens he is working on here:

There is a Part1 and 2 fixing sticky aperture.
The lens was a bit different from he was used to so it took longer time to find out how to get into the aperture even that it is a rather simple lens with only 4 lens elements.
The last video shows cleaning of lens elements.
Good I did not decided to try this myself!

There are many examples of nice bokeh and good sharpness with this lens like here:

I got my for around 180 Euro.
The APO version is much more expensive. Here I would go with the 105/2.8 Z-version. I could probably get two of those for the price of one APO.
It is more fun to find a good lens for less money that can do something special.
