[Theme] Let's enjoy anomalies!
« on: October 17, 2025, 16:58:11 »
Our NG friend Bruno (Schroder) posted interesting images he shot by ignoring a couple of rules to use the phone camera in panorama mode...:

https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=11348.0;topicseen

..., which inspired me to start this thread.

These two images are also shot with a phone camera in panorama mode.  I stood still and swept the camera from left to right, which heeds the rule.  However, the images on this cylindrical display changed while I was shooting pano, which resulted in these images whose anomalies looks similar to the images shot by Bruno, but through a different mechanism.

And here I'd like to encourage you folks to post images "marred" by any possible anomalies, glitches or malfunctions of the camera or the software and enjoy!

Chaos can arise from many sources, be they anomalies or not. Sometimes it can even be a new lens that behaved in an unexpected fashion :D

Malfunctions can create their own visual expression ... This is my favourite zebra photo, which resulted from a bit transfer error that corrupted a single file. This occurred only once, next time I downloaded RAW files from the same card everything went smoothly and no glitch. However, I had the files downloaded the first time on a spare hard drive and quickly found the corrupted file was much more interesting. After a few attempts, Bibble, my RAW converter at that time, managed to read the NEF and the result is here.

I remember this image clearly. It impacted me in a few ways and it is also a favorite of  mine

Cool idea for a thread Akira!  I have one in mind but will need a deep dive into the drives.

Birna and Fons, thank you for the contributions so far.  These are exactly what I'm hoping for!

Bruno and Paco, thank you for your countenances.  Am looking forward to your contributions here!

I assume most users of either focus stacking or panorama stitching have experiences instances in which the method(s) fail -- often miserably. However, sometimes the flaws become an additional dimension of the outcome itself.

PTGui sometimes have real difficulties stitching my 'imperfect' Rodenstock Heligon images.

Some years ago, I shot an HD video in UV with the Coastal 60mm f/4 APO on my full-spectrum modified Panasonic GH2. Till this day I have no idea what happened, except a section of the video came out garbled.

I kept a screenshot :)

This is a social malfunction, not really a sw or hw, and may not meet the requirements but isn't this about rules being broken :) ?
I was shooting groups of friends at the party of my niece's wedding. Everyone in this group was well lined up and ready. Then the bride showed up, a fraction of a second before I clicked, and everyone disbanded.
Low res only, I need to dig the archive to find the original raw file.
