Hi Frank, there's no magic behind it. I noticed that dragonflies often follow certain patterns and return to the same place again.
I had the camera in AF-C and 3D AF mode. And it took me 2-3 dozens of attempts to get a half-decent result.
I would close the aperture more next time.
