I "reconfigured" my Z30 for use as a quasi-rangefinder camera working with the old Voigtländer 15mm f/4.5 SL lens. This comprised putting the rear display to the 'protected' setting with the monitor on the inside and metal outwards, semi-permanently adding an optical peep-through framefinder, and adjusting the focus on the 15mm with a dedicated F-Z 'dumb' adapter so I could rely on the engraved focus scale on the lens. It even has click-stopped settings at 0.5 and 1m, and a hard stop at the ends at infinity and 0.3m, and in combination with the built-in focusing lever setting the lens to an approximate given distance without looking is quite easy, even more so after some practice runs. Following the ancient adage of 'f/8 and be there', and the modern invention of auto ISO sensitivity, allows for relaxed shooting. Eye-balling the frame coverage becomes second nature after a while.

The final touch is adding GPS recording. The usual approach, a Foolography device, won't work as that company now has gone down the drain with a junk product these days. Their '22 Unleashed' units are to be shunned at all costs. Using the Snapbridge app gives GPS input although co-ordinates aren't very accurate since they originate from the mobile phone. Best solution is putting a standard, small GPS logger in your pocket and use the potential of ExifTool to plow back GPS data into the NEF/jpg files. I wote a simple script to achieve this and provided the camera time is set correctly, this procedure works perfectly.
