Frank, you could crop away the upper part with the lighting, unless you consider it the "crown" of the subject. For me it works. 3:2 ratio vertical is not what I prefer, especially on non-tilting monitors. N.B. I often try 5:4 or 4:3, to discover that I did not actually lose anything significant.
I'm not fan of the vertical 3:2 frame either: it's too long. However, there are always exceptions to the rule. I still like the original image, because the sense of height seems to be appropriate as a snapshot/portrait in a church. Also, the "crown" and the arch (sorry, I don't know the technical word of the design or the part) in the background looks effective for the same reason.
As for the color, tha last one is too much vibrance/saturation. The modest color of the original keeps its calm, serene feel.
