on 16th of May 2026, Chris, Francis and me were on the Isle of May in Scotland to shoot birds with our cameras...

... our ferry was damaged and we had to be "rescued"

A glimpse into the small world, for a change?

The resting spores of the chytrid Physoderma cf. eleocharidis at 400X. Such stuff as crop up while I'm revising the herbaria collections. These spores are gigantic compared to ordinary fungal spores, by several orders of magnitude.

(identification is tentative as this group of fungi is rather obscure and not intensively studied)

+1 - and I wouldn't mind taking a long calming rest at that spot, Akira! And then explore it further  :)

It certainly looks lost in those surroundings, Paco - luckily it brought its own house! .. such snails must have been the first movers with mobile homes  ;D
