End of an era?
« on: January 17, 2025, 22:28:37 »
I read Birna’s announcement about the direction of Nikongear, rising costs, declining participation, … with sadness. This group has been a very valuable resource for me and I’ve gained learning, enjoyment and inspiration from you all through the years. I’m sure we all see ebbs and flows in our lives and how much time and energy we can devote to our pursuits. I think it must be months since I last checked in here.

So I wanted to say thank you to all here who I’ve learned from or interacted with before it all fades away. It has been truly one of the best corners of the internet to hang out in.

Thanks Jack.

I remember your previous contributions.
You mention not having checked in for months.

We were having a discussion on the separate thread about why people arent using the site as much?

I think it must be months since I last checked in here.

Any thoughts on why this was for you?
e.g. Just not using your camera as much through winter?

So many reasons to not post. Work, health, projects, family all jump ahead in line. I’m doing a lot of thinking about images, but not so much making of them. My work life revolves around generative AI and physical AI these days, and I think there will be an interesting intersection between words, images, form, narrative and culture that can be explored. My background is in architecture and I feel that there is something lurking in there but day to day life offers not so many chances for reflection.

I’ll make a contribution in the morning. This place has offered me so much.
