Can anyone in Europe help me get this rubber ‘tool’?
« on: January 05, 2024, 22:06:42 »
Several times my attempts to get inside old Nikkor lenses with a ring at the front that must be unscrewed to get at the optics have failed.  The usual range of rubber lens tools from China and Japan don’t cut the mustard for me, as they are never the right size, and they never work for me :-(

But the handy rubber thingie from a hardware shop in this video looks to be just what I need! In fact I was trying to get inside the same lens when I found this video.

But this rubber thing seems to be very obscure. When I google it I only find a few hardware shops in what I guess to be Scandinavia? I was wondering if it might be possible for a member here to buy one for me, and send it to Japan - or the UK, where I will be for a week next month.

The thingie

Video of it in use (at 7:30 mark)

I´ll happily do it but all the results in your link are from Sweden? Anything closer in euros will do

I found something that looks similar, but proportions are very different, on Amazon Japan. Tomorrow I will tour some large hardware shops! I’m sure I will look suspicious, loitering in plumbing supplies, constantly pulling a lens from my pocket and twisting it with a rubber adapter ;-)

Are you looking for something like these?  Didn't they work for you?

Nope. The sizes are wrong, as are the usual set of grey tools from China.

There is a reason why that wise gent in the video creates his own tools, or raids hardware shops, and that reason is the front retaining rings of Nikkors in the early 60s. They are pure evil!

In the video you linked to, the gent uses the one I linked to (around 15:00) as well...

I tried it to find in Germany, we do not have those. Only similiar forms and black or grey. Then I tried with your sample of Bauhaus and searched with the part no in Bauhaus Germany, no result. Sorry, can´t help so far.
