Anyone entering the center of Amersfoort soon will be surprised by an alienating scene. From 3 July, a gigantic polar bear will unabashedly empty its bladder in the canal from the quay at Museum Flehite. This 'Pissing Polar Bear' is the latest work by Florentijn Hofman, known among other things for the rubber ducks that float across the seas worldwide. The giant sculpture is part of the Kunst & Zoo family exhibition. This can be seen from 8 July to 19 November to celebrate the 75th anniversary of DierenPark Amersfoort.
"With this sculpture, Hofman makes short work of the cuddly image of this powerful and brutal animal. That brutality matches perfectly with the subject that the artwork ultimately revolves around, namely global warming. The ice is melting, the polar bear's habitat is getting smaller and smaller. This polar bear has left its natural environment and has stepped ashore on the quay of Museum Flehite in Amersfoort aan Zee. The beast behaves just as antisocially in the human world as humans treat the living environment of the animals".
