On the sandy beach yesterday, we were greeted by the bright yellow 'suns' of the Cape Marigold Arctotheca calendula, native to Cape Town. In Spain, it is defined as an invasive immigrant species, but apparently does little to no harm in the sandy environment in which it thrives. If anything the rhizome of its perennial growth helps stabilise the sand and reduce sand loss from windy beaches.
