Nikon d810 in 2023?

A question for the community. I have a chance to get a d810 with a little over 200.000 shots but in very good condition for a fair price (480€). I have never had one of of high resotuion bodies as the 24mpx was more than enough but...of course I have lust for for one. Intended for slow work pace and to enjoy the output. Maybe transform it in a dedicated bw bodie in the future.

Be carefull with the second hand D810 as the Factory Autofocus tolerance is sometimes too high (especially in the early models), resulting in the extremely irritating task of fine-tuning all your auto-focus lenses.  It took me 2 samples before I had a 'normal' D810. In that respect a D800E is more reliable.   

Personally I think 200.000 shots is pretty high.  There are a lot of samples on the market with less actuations, but that comes with a price, I guess.

Image quality, high ISO etc and also the speed of witch the camera works, took a big step up with the D850,,,

Get yourself down from the fence. It isn't the right choice. The mileage is too big. Even more, it was already said, you can't use in the diapason of 1/40 - 1/150, due to vibrations. You will be tired, very tired with AF adjusting, to every lens. Even much more advanced D850 still carries some of the previous models' imperfections.  Think twice, please!  LZ

I will agree with those who recommend a Nikon D850 instead...

I have a Nikon D850 and a Nikon D800. I had frequent issues with gray subjects with Color Moiré with the D800 in spite of the D800's AA filter. The higher 46MP v. 36MP of the D850 over the D800 completely solved that problem for me. The color moiré from time to time showed up even at modest ISO(s).

The D810 has a composite mirror box. I've seen and I'm pretty sure I posted with permission photos of a broken D810 here where the camera side bayonet stayed with the lens. As I recall there were not even brass inserts in the the D810 mirror box.

There is some traces of double-countering, sometimes, at 1/60-1/125. Auto-adjusting of AF lenses is not stable. A lot of moire on a specific background. Doesn't work well with 3-party lenses - Tam 24-70, for example. And, yes, a lot of grain. If one's style is more with stable objects - nature, for exm., Z
7 is a much better choice. Take into your account, it is my own experience. THX! LZ

As to the original question, 36 MP is not enough of an improvement over 24MP. Especially for a high-mileage body with potential issues. Save the money for other indulgences.

Given that you list a Z6 on your profile why not add a Z7 or Z7II? What features of the D850 do you require the Z7 doesn't offer?

Love for the F-mount  and their lenses?

I personally love to work with dual systems.  The Z with FTZ   and also a good F mount camera.  A DSRL is a different experience   And Nikon offers both in high quality.
