I know it's Canon :)
« on: December 29, 2022, 18:11:00 »
Hi all,
I'll try my luck here to look for advice :) I have acquired a cheap Canon FD 50mm f1.8 SC. Its elements are in good shapes except the front assembly has some internal haze. I don't seem to find a way to open the assembly. It looks like it is glued closed for good. I don't see any seams around the casing. Any hints on how to approach are much appreciated.
Cheers,
Zang

It seems others had the same problem. It is a sealed unit so the seal has to be broken of the rear lens of the front unit?

Thank you Meper, this is a good find! This is what I was afraid of. I would leave the assembly alone for now. Digging up the element is not a pleasant job :)

With the haze, the lens is super sharp and contrasty. Colors are nice too. Below is a few 100% crop samples. The order is f1.8, f1.8, f4, f4.
