Pyrrhopappus grandiflorus (Tuber false dandelion), a native of the south central plains of the U.S.
Here this plant has a vigorous growth habit and is considered a weed, but I've noted that a few
flower catalogs now offer what is perhaps a cultivar.
Our gardens are fenced to minimize depredation by rabbits and armadillos.
