Smallest Z6 lens option?

I would like an ultra compact Z setup with a relative fast lens (1.8-2.8 ) for sometimes street, sometimes indoor events. On the go shooting.

the Z lens are big and the FTZ adds size.

What have people found the best one lens, low bulk option? (Ofc the kit lens is not all that big but still hoping for smaller)

I don't have them yet but Nikon make a few compact Z lenses including the 24-50, the 28/2.8 and 50/2.8 macro which are quite compact. There will also be a 40/2.

What is the "Ofc" kit lens? I'm not acquainted with "Ofc."

The size of Z mount prime lenses are generally disappointing to me. Compare the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S, AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G and AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D. Of those three only the early AF/AF-D 50/1.8 Nikkors are small and light. I had hoped that Nikon would bring quality, performance and size together in Z mount lenses.

You can choose two out of three qualities: affordable, small, and high quality.

I would highly recommend you take some photos with the Z 50/1.8 S side by side with the 50/1.8 AF or AF-D. I think you will not likely complain about its size again after evaluating the images.

For a bit less quality and smaller size, I am sure the compact primes will do nicely. However, for me the f/1.8 S primes seem ideal for a lot of reasons.

It's not as simple as choosing two out of three. As I see it it's more choose one of three: affordable or high quality. There should be something between an all plastic lens and a fairly large, high quality lens. Maybe there is no market for such a compromise but don't think what is available is not a compromise. Every lens is a compromise.

Cameras are compromises also. The Nikon Z fc isn't quite what I want but if it had a few things I want the price might be too high for many of it's target buyers. The Nikon Z fc is selling for $957.00 (body only, USD) as I type at B&H Photo, NY, NY. It's $1,097.00 with a 16-50mm zoom. I'm going to recommend the later option to a nephew with a 6 month old baby. I feel strongly that the life of a child is too short to waste on smart phone photos alone.

Cross your fingers and hope the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is a worthy lens. I read it will have a plastic bayonet but I guess if the price is wright and performance on FX acceptable for street it might be a good start. I'd like a smaller lighter 50/2.0 and 35/2.0 Z FX with the promised better performance of Z lenses due to the short back focus distance but I don't think it will happen and please I change lenses so I want a chromed, bronze bayonet.

Yes,yes. I should have given more context. I don’t mean for an always lens, but for a 25% of time - out to dinner, out at night — where photography is not the focus. Where for that session I’d give up a little quality for more compact size!

I would look after a M39 rangefinder lens and use a M39 to Z adapter.
The 25/4 Snapshot Skopar is nice but if too slow then maybe a 50/2 Jupiter 8 or 50/1.5 Jupiter 3.
There are many other options.

Are you looking for AF lenses only or are small, fast, manual focus lenses acceptable?

Voigtländer 40mm f/2 SL.2 is compact, and quite fast. It makes a good combination on the Z fc and handles well even with the bulky FTZ inserted. The lens is manual focus and has a CPU thus is fully compatible with the F- as well as the Z-system.
