A closer view of the stem of a Water-Starwort Callitriche hamulata. The peculiar "peltate scales" or hairs are a diagnostic feature for this species aggregate. The scales appear blue here due to staining with Lactophenol Cotton Blue. The unsharp blue dots are hairs on the reverse side of the stem.GXCam U3-18 on a confocal microscope, 10x/0.25 objective, 20 frames stacked in Zerene. Scale bar is 100 µm (= 0.1mm) with 1 µm steps.
