Gimme shelter
« on: November 09, 2025, 16:48:20 »
Lille, Jardin des Géants, Nov 9. Japanese anemone and ladybird bug.
Zfc, Nikkor Z 16-50/2.8 @ 50mm and f/3.2, 1/160s and ISO 320, handheld.

The Zeiss 50/2 Milvus would outresolve that zoom lens at f/2.8 (I tested it with some precautions - using a tripod), but the latter remains useful all the same. The zoom is nearly 1/2 stop darker, slightly warmer, and its FL is reduced at short distances. Otherwise it takes pixel peeping to clearly see the difference in resolution.

I remember being pleased with my old Nikkor Zoom DX 17-55/2.8.  It got just close enough (about 1:4) for nice closeups in nature. The first "all-purpose" lens I had.  The appearance of the D3 necessitated its removal from the kit.

Yes, the 17-55/2.8 Nikkor. I used it extensively with D2X and loved it

These days, I might pull out the D500 just for fun and the 17-55 apparently glues itself to the camera.
