G'day from Down Under
« on: April 21, 2017, 11:34:24 »
Hi,

I've only just started to post, so I thought I'd better say hello and tell you a little about me.

I now live in Brisbane, Australia, which is in a sub tropical/tropical state called Queensland which is about two and a half times the size of Texas.

I've been a News LTD (yeah I know, the Rupert Murdoch company...) newspaper staff photographer for 33 years, working for "The Australian" newspaper (a broadsheet, and the only national paper in Australia).

So I've been lucky enough to work professionally through the joys (or not!) of the b/w film era, colour film, early digital and modern digital.

.... I can not stress enough how little fun it was arriving late into a tiny outback town motel, try to turn the motel room into a mobile darkroom to (badly) process and print a news job from a maximum of 2 rolls of film on a tiny enlarger we carried...then try to "picturegram" the resulting b/w 10x8 print to our head office thousands of kilometres away over scratchy landlines...

Just quietly, for work, modern digital wins every time...

So I take news photo's for a living, but really the only photos I take outside of that are either cars or motorsport, my other passions.

Like almost every press photographer I started with work supplied Nikon's and truly loved them (well, most of them), then Nikon badly dropped the ball with its press clients and eventually our company switched to Canon, about 10 years ago.

So now I shoot with work supplied Canons (1DX Mkii's), which are amazing but are sadly just tools for my job. So now to fill that "love of gear" void I collect old Nikons.

Much to my wife's distress I now have a great collection of incredible old cameras and gear that gives me a huge amount of pleasure (and financial pain)....and that almost nobody else could care less about...

Cheers, Lyndon

ps. here's a pic I still quite like of the only Lamborghini I could find in the outback for a story a few years back about speed limits being introduced for the very first time in that particular region (the Northern Territory)

The image was so thrilling that I forgot what I had read previously in your post.  :D  Sorry about that!

Lyndon, welcome aboard .  You should be right at home here with your collection of old Nikon gear.   Some one here most likely has, or has had, almost everything Nikon has produced.   Love the image  :) .
Cheers from a very hot Goa

Thank you very much for your kind welcome comments.

I do! When it comes to motor sports I value rallying over endurance,- and then long comes nothing.
