Hints and Tips forum
« on: June 28, 2015, 06:18:22 »
Colin M asked me in my thread on my 400f2.8E FL VR review to start a thread regarding bird photography tips and hints etc. I thought the thread could be a 'perpetual' or 'sticky' that anyone could post to and add their own tips or questions. Alternatively, a hints and tips heading and under that heading have a forum for each of the followong:
Birding/wildlife
Travel
Landscapes
Portraiture
Modelling
Architecture

What do the Moderators think of the above suggestion?

Not sure this should be out in the open ;) but here is my input:

Hints and tips also tricks?

Should all follow/be in sync with the boards on just inside them.

I'll prefer the least possible amount of boards, to keep the site as simple as possible

I know Frank, it has been duly noted!

However, since the Management board is so busy we have not yet had time to have a board meeting to settle the matter ;)

Damn ... you actually are. On a whim I Googled "patience":

"NOUN
1. the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset:
"you can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the dross"
synonyms: forbearance · tolerance · restraint · self-restraint · stoicism · Fremerey, Frank

2. chiefly British term for solitaire."

"Everywhere you look there are photographs, it is the call of photographers to see and capture them."- Gary Ayala

Gary. I was to modest to quote that here. Slightly embarrassed. Frank

Thank you Lance for this initiative.
Two observations:
  • I think the categories suggested might well have some core hints & tips that others might find useful
  • What's the best way to collate a good set of "gold nuggets"?
If we leave the discussions open, people will want to ask questions, add comments etc which are useful but can dilute the content after a while
I'm sure the forum managers would prefer they didn't have to go in and edit/prune etc. Maybe an alternative is that selected posts are copied into a Hints & tips area from time to time?

Good points, Colin. I agree that there should be a "Sticky" section where the best hints and tips are put into for reference.
