I did notice btw that http://nikongear.net/ is no longer being automatically redirected to http://nikongear.net/revival/, one has to click on the link presented on the banner site.

This is something we can fix as we did it before, curious what change disabled the fix though.
This is what I really meant :D I just mixed up .net and .com...

The confusion of .com and .net is common. We hold the rights to the domain nikongear.net (+nikongear.org, the latter will be functional later).

The redirection from nikongear.net to nikongear.net/revival is working again.

I don't think it's worth spending time on getting NG.com back. It seems this forum is growing and doing quite well without it.

Of course we don't "need" nikongear.com as such. In terms of attendance of members and active content building, we already outdo the older site by a very clear margin. This is more about the confusion of two similar-named domains going in highly different directions. We had hoped this should be solved by agreement but that option no longer exists.

Do enjoy and contribute on NG instead.

That's of course true and it would certainly be an advantage to be without it.

So much is already posted here that I have trouble keeping up :)

Very true. I feel likewise. The statistic show that on an average 160 new posts per day (+ those only for the admins, which can be a significant number on occasions).

More than 85% of the visits are from direct links or book marks, so this is still a word-of-mouth insider's site.

I just tried searching for "nikongear":
DuckDuckGo: .com #1, Fotozones #2, .net #3.
Google.dk in english: .com #1, .net #2.
Google.dk: .net #1, .com #2.
Bing: Like DuckDuckGo.

As I stated already, most traffic isn't from the search engines, although their spiders crawl over us every time. But our presence and standing in the cybersearch increase by the day.

It is not an aim for NG to become a big community as far as traffic quanitity goes. We are entirely devoid of any revenue depending on traffic volume as such. However, a site can be influential by means of the community participation and the quality of content generated. This is the direction in which the Team hopes NG will follow.

From my present Norwegian location,

Google.com: #1 .com  #2 .net #3 FZ
Google.no  : #1 .com  #2 .net  #3 FZ
Bing          : #1 .com  #2  FZ   #3 .net
Duckgogo  : #1 .com  #2 FZ    #3 .net

Thus, although we currently aren't pushed on top of the search stack (not unexpected, as we don't do anything to make that happen), we are directly visible to anyone searching for 'nikongear'. My guess is that the nikongear.net site will surpass the .com version in the foreseeable near future as that site pair continues its current trend of diminished influence. Many of the newcomers to NG have membership on FZ and there is no need for them to think of "site preference" because both communities, hopefully, can and should co-exist happily. Thus do site hopping as much as you like ....
