Winter in Yellowstone must be spectacular although I imagine that the roads, and especially the Trails, are fairly hazardous at that time of year.

The trail from which these splendid photographs were taken is quite steep and, I seem to remember, it has exposed tree-roots too.

The steaming vents must be even more dramatic in the cold winter air than they usually are.

I haven't been there in the winter, but many swear by it as one of the best times to go to photograph the animals. They, especially the bison, are in their full winter coats and the contrast between them and the snow yields some spectacular images. I would also think you are quite correct about the geysers as well, if you can catch them on a clear day, you get a very dramatic image.
