...both on dpreview.com
https://www.dpreview.com/articles/4996495413/the-home-of-the-l-series-we-tour-canon-utsunomiya-factory
https://www.dpreview.com/interviews/4536277079/canon-lens-factory-interview
and imaging-resourse.com websites.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2017/03/20/canon-factory-tour
https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2017/03/20/canon-japan-factory-tour-interview
Apparently the reporters from both websites attended the same tour together, and inevitably the reports are similar.
The interesting part to me is the interviews, and the fact that the quality control datum for each lens has been stored in the chip of the lens produced since five years. The interviewees didn't tell whether the datum is used by the camera when the images are shot. It is interesting to suspect that there would be discrepancy between the stored datum and the actual characteristics of the lens when it is repaired, for example, at the rental shops, and to wonder if that would cause any issue.

Very interesting, especially the hand-operated tooling - thanks for sharing Akira
