How to stop time?

My daughter is growing up at a scary pace. She is now 11, plays the piano remarkably well and gives us only reasons to be proud.
The only way I know to stop time is to take pictures of her. But now I have to negociate very hard in order to get only 5 minutes...

Well done - on a beautiful portrait - as well as doing it. When my kids were that age - we simply didnt have money for film. I missed to many opportunities.

Airy, do you mean it was better then? I would agree, based on my own experience with two grown-up kids. It can be hard starting at 13-14, but usually it gets better when they reach maturity, whenever that is... So hang on there...
Akira: you are quite right, this was shot at the end of my allowed 5 minutes (can you believe she set a timer?)

Elsa: I guess we all miss opportunities. But it doesn't really matter in the end, a few good memories is all we need...
Jakov: I'm working on it. Literally. At work (fragrance industry) we are developping a technology that we market as capable of slowing down time...

About the picture: a bit more DOF may have helped, I think. I often struggle to balance my will to get rid of details in the background, and to maintain  enough detail on the face. And of course as I shoot handheld with a large window as only light source, you can imagine the dilemma.

Yesterday I bought a large LCD panel (60x60cm), neutral white with good light intensity. I will soon see how it works as a softbox. The first results are promising but I need to get a stand.

You got me with the tittle already.

  It is amazing the amount of intimacy your post has. Not only the image -it has!- but the way you present the details. Very sensitive.

  Not sure if more dof will make the image better. More likely, just different. I like it the way it is.

 Same for the window light, I love natural light and stick by it as much as possible.


  As I have no child, I can´t imagine what do you feel when you are proud or trying to stop time...or when she put up the timer

13.. 14 is certainly the crisis years, my kids just passed that time and the difference is so positive, it is nice to enjoy their company again

Paco, when she puts up the timer, I do experience the whole portofolio of emotions. But in the end, I admire her for standing up to me.
Of course I wouldn't mind her waiting a few more minutes. Maybe I have to fudge that egg timer? Of course everything would be hard boiled there on...
