I've never seen a redder sky. Like the clouds were dripping fresh blood. The sRGB rendition of the web makes it "pale".

Impressive. It was an extraordinary deep orange here (Belgium). Unfortunately I could not go out to take a picture. Any idea if anything special is causing it?

That deep red sky/cloud wouldn't be seen in Tokyo that is located in the lower altitude.  The flatter angle of incident light from the sun into the atmosphere should be the deciding factor.
