One of my favorite things to photograph as it takes many forms. I didn't see a theme devoted to it so starting off with a shower of it.

They are from a couple years ago.
This last winter never made it there but it was a whole lot colder. Just did not want to chance the drive up the Gorge ;)

One of my first captures with the new 200/2 AFS. It was raining hard and the colours came out vividly.

Here is another approach I have been playing with. I am far from sure it is a good idea, but I will see what people think. It starts with a series of images of the flowing water - I use Continuous High on the D500 for about one second. Then every second or third image (second in this case) is colour shifted to red, green and blue, then re-combined. The idea is that highlight areas where the ripples have moved on in the 200 or 300 msec between shots will be different colours.

Very interesting effect. Imo. it works well - kind of impressionistic. Staring into a stream and watching the colorful reflections shifting .. fall into a reverie :-)
I also like your first shot of partially stoned water.
-
I am not sure about "reverie". It reminds me of an occasion when I had the Speciaalomelet, in a city where there is a lot of gently moving water, in a past so remote such things were new.

Thanks Jakov! Generally, it tends to annoy me. But on holiday, in the pool, i love it.

Stinging water.
Very interesting, catching the eye. Very well done.

Paco, Akira and Thomas - many thanks for the kind comments and sharing your impressions!
I had been on a few walks by the shore during that day and spotted several small jellyfish. In the evening I got the chance to take this shot of a larger one from a bridge - I think my mind had circled around such an opportunity most of the day :-) Handheld, 55mm (APS-C) and 1/20 sec. provided a bit of movement in the image.
-
Lars, thanks for the details. I didn't realize that it was a jellyfish!
-
Lars, thanks for the details. I didn't realize that it was a jellyfish!
;D .. no, it's definitely not obvious - however, I hoped my title provided a small hint to what lurked below the reflections in the water. This species is a well known visitor along danish shores with its tentacles that gives a nasty burning sting.

Thanks Jack - glad you found it interesting despite the immediate disorder :)
-
Yes, that thin ice crust on the water in spring can make very nice slow growing crystals.
Here is a UV induced visual fluorescence (UVIVF) capture photographed at night. The fluorescence is due to something in the meltwater pond, not the ice by itself (it was also tested and found present on unfrozen water) :

Nice one, Brute. Reminds me to Steptoe Canion and Snake River (the volcanic levels), so I had to look it up, and it is the same region. The valley of the Snake River there looks very similar to the Rhine valley, where the Rhine crosses the volcanic area. Only the vineyards are missing ;) A wonderful country!
