Flicker BBCode - Nice link for images
« on: June 12, 2015, 23:09:16 »
How to post an image from Flicker so that it is displayed nicely and when you click on it, it opens in Flicker

Flicker>Share Image>Select BBCode and a suitable size>Copy link>Paste link among the text you are typing...

Here I have inserted a carriage return between the two:

I love the opening image Eric.
Since I don't use Flickr, is the method you've described unique to images hosted there?

So far I've found the built in feature (button underneath the Bold button in the menu bar) seems to work for other sites.

This also seems to allow you to type text such as captions around your image too. Please tell me if I'm missing something.....

....ok, so the "click to open elsewhere" functionality is the extra feature.

A must in my eyes, otherwise it really looks crappy.

Other image hosters like SmugMug provide a similar copy&past link feature, but without the advertising string, just the image link.

I am usually faster typing
Code: [Select]
[img][/img]and putting the link between the tags than navigating to that copy&paste feature.

Hi AFX, yes I found the approach worked fine, except for the "click to enlarge" behaviour.
  • In the previous site we used to visit, the BB software automatically produced a larger or full-sized version of the image when you clicked on it.
  • Eric's approach takes you to the source site. I don't always like this, but one benefit is that it can introduce viewers to the rest of your portfolio. Ron Scubadiver used a simialr approach by posting a single image, plus the URL to the wider collection
  • I note that with our new Nikongear, a simple R-click gives you the usual menu that includes "Open in new tab". This "sort of" works as that image can then be clicked to show it at its full size

I'm sure we'll make this more seamless in the weeks ahead so no worries. Any suggestions from other people are welcome.

But only for uploaded images. The behavior for linked images is the same.

That is specific to the BB code generated by Flickr.
I use a slightly different approach that just links to a larger image, not the hosting site:
Code: [Select]
[url=LargeImage][img]ForumImage[/img][/url]

Of course as there is no JavaScript code to mess with the image/link. Basically a consequence of the first point in the list.

It appears you made the settings "private" on flickr - however it is visible in the thread to us.

I cannot see Jørgen's photo - it is said to be private.

Yes, the image is marked private on Flickr. It seemed okay here, I tested in a browser where my Flickr login information is unknown and I saw the image just fine here on the site. I also just tested it on my iPhone and I could see the image here in the thread just fine.

Bjørn: Are you saying you don't see the image here in the thread?
