New Z8 and Z6 III firmware released
« on: February 26, 2025, 09:22:40 »

Z8 v. 2.10

Installed without problems. Note that shooting mode of each bank is set to P immediately after install per Nikon's description, just takes a few seconds to set back to original preference.

A further comment that the reason for the shooting mode of each bank being set to P immediately after install, is that there are now separate parallel banks for video and stills, which is a great improvement but important to be aware of if one switches between these two modes:
While without much preparation taking a few shots during a dance performance at the Anchorage museum this week with my Z8 (https://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=11160.msg205945#msg205945), I started out shooting video, and made note that the 85mm f/1.8 was wide open as intended for subject isolation. But when I quickly switched to stills I forgot that the A bank was at f/7.1 while video bank A had also been set to P mode by the firmware upgrade and thus kept the lens wide open to accommodate the low light levels. Thus I did not get the intended subject isolation for the stills. So during processing I grabbed some jpgs of the frames of that dance performance from the video shot in 4K 60p, which after all worked out well.

It is also worth noting that a switch of shooting bank in shooting mode will also switch to the parallell bank in video mode and vice versa.

Thank you for the heads up on that 'feature' ;)

Interesting, it definitely did change to P mode with me in all the banks. The different banks were in A and M mode beforehand.
