Closeup Lens and Image Stabilisation

Does anyone have experience with how image stabilisation (camera or lens based) works on a lens with a close-up lens (diopter) attached? I have a telephoto zoom which focuses moderately close and I would like to get a Nikon 5T close-up lens to reduce the focus distance and turn it into a macro zoom.

Obviously, the lens/camera system does not know that a diopter is attached so cannot compensate for the changed optical system. The closeup lens reduces the focal length of the lens, which usually puts less demands on the IS system. On the other hand, the magnification is higher which might require more from IS. The two effects might cancel out so in theory adding a diopter might be neutral? In other words IS might still be effective. I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience here. Thanks.

My best guess would be that the lens VR is a little bit fooled but without consequence for the image quality since the optics are behaving a little differently.
In camera VR doesn't suffer from this except for possibly the very close distance so maybe less ability to compensate for vibrations.
By far the optical complications are far greater, like double lines for objects in fore and back ground,,,
Similar VR difficulties may come from extension rings I guess,,,

Roland - I might have some relevant input. I've tried a Raynox macro conversion lens (forgotten that I had one for my D40 - turns out I have two..). I know the Raynox is not what you are asking about, so just an example. It seems to work fine on the Nikon 50/1.8 S (no VR) with IBIS in my Z7. The 50 doesn't focus close so I just tried for fun - the diameter of the macro lens approx. covers the 50's lens diameter.

Focus can be a bit tricky with AF, but once it gets focus the AF works but within a narrow space. I've taken OK shots handheld, but of course more keepers on a small tripod or on a my backpack.       

I've attached two shots at closest focus with AF - one from yesterday with the macro lens attached and one from today without. The flower is approx. 5 mm. 

The one I've used is Raynox DCR 150.
